Mosquito Problems Solved
If you have mosquito issues like we did at Gillingham Farms, you'll want to read on. We have tried countless tactics trying to control or reduce the mosquito population in the early years. Over time we have found that there isn't going to be any one solution to this pesky problem. We tend to use a few different mosquito control methods in efforts to deter and/or delete the mosquito population around our farm. The methods we use are the use of the Mosquito
Magnet, Outdoor Insect Candles
, and Galvanized Citronella Lanterns
. There is also one method of using Mosquito Dunks
in areas with standing water, however this method may prove hazardous if you have pets or children in the area.
The Mosquito Magnet uses a counter-flow technology that emits a plume of CO2, heat, and moisture while at the same time sucking in the tiny, biting mosquitoes that can wreck havoc on our outer shell (skin). The the mechanism is powered by a propane tank to supply the carbon dioxide and electricity to power the vacuum suction feature. There is minimal assembly required, but it is very simple.

The Outdoor Insect Candle provides centralized mosquito control by using natural ingredients that are environmentally safe. Andiroba works as an amazing natural bug repellent because it causes insects to lose their appetite and return home rendering them bite-less. These candles contain no insecticide, so they are incredibly safe. Each candle provides for 28 hours of bug free, enjoyable, outdoor fun.

Galvanized Citronella Lanterns are durable, galvanized lanterns with a bit of a contemporary look that will have lasting effects outdoors. These lanterns are functional and they look decent as well. So if you through a few parties in the summer time, this is for you. Setting the mood and keeping mosquitoes away with citronella lanterns can be a pretty nice addition to any backyard party.
We don't use the Mosquito Dunks around the farm because we have a few pets and visitors that we like to keep away from potentially hazardous chemicals. However, if you do not h
ave pets or little ones running around, mosquito dunks may be a viable mosquito solution. Generally mosquito dunks are placed in areas with standing water and kill mosquitoes before they are old enough to bite. These dunks will float on top of water while releasing long-term biological mosquito larvicide at the surface.
